Welcome to my home page. My name is John, which is short for John M. Daniel. I am a writer, and thanks to good fortune and a good publisher, I am also an author. I write the Guy Mallon mystery series, published by Poisoned Pen Press.

The first Guy Mallon mystery was The Poet’s Funeral, published in May 2005. The second, Vanity Fire, was published in October 2006. A third, Behind the Redwood Curtain, is under construction. There’s more to tell you about Guy Mallon, the pint-sized book collector, bookseller, publisher, amateur sleuth, and danger magnet, but I’ll let him speak for himself.

I’ve also written a few other books and a lot of short stories. And I wear other hats as well: I’m a small-press book publisher, a freelance editor, and a teacher of creative writing.

As for my personal life, I live in Humboldt County, on the far-north redwood coast of California, with my wife, Susan. We own (and are owned by) our own business, Daniel & Daniel, Publishers, Inc. We work at home. We lavish affection on each other, our four grown sons, seven grandchildren, a garden, and a varying number of cats (at the moment we’re down to one).
