HIS FRIENDS ARE GOLDEN-AND VICE VERSA
If dogs are mankind's best friends, surely it is only right
to return their loyalty. And if mankind is among dogs' best friends,
surely no dog ever had better friends than Richard S. Jackson
of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and his family. Their adventures
with several generations of canines are chronicled in Jackson's
new book, appropriately entitled The Best of Friends-Adventures
with Goldens and Other Family Members.
If the reader is a dog-or even just a lover of dogs-The
Best of Friends is a "must." Its thirteen very
short tales recount the lives and antics of various four-legged
members of a suburban family, beginning with Candy, a dachshund
who found his way unbidden into the family bosom, and continuing
with CC, a cuddly Golden Retriever who fit snugly into a Christmas
stocking and who grew up to deliver a brood of seven male pups.
One of the latter was Copper of West Street, a clumsy, large-footed
charmer who loved his two-footed family even more than his fellow
Goldens.
Even normal humans will enjoy these tales of Jackson's extended
family. The charming stories are written in a simple, straightforward
style, with plenty of humor, affection, and daily annoyance that
any pet owner will recognize.
